I started this project after seeing the raccoon mario made from grannysquares and I was off… I wanted to make a 1-UP-mushroom from the SuperMario-series for my daughter Minke (5 months old) so she would have a real neat blanket.
I made a “pattern” for the squares and went looking for a nice size GS to make up. I didn’t find a real pattern but from a few photo’s of Lucy (Attic24) made my own pattern for the granny’s! (really easy, I’ll note it underneath this all…)
I needed 208 GS to make my UP, and am still counting. Now a few weeks/months after starting, I’m reaching the end of the horizon and with only 34 to go, I’m really looking forward to finishing it.
Not the finishing off though, that will be a monster to do I guess, but still.
Finally it should become an application to be put on a blanket of white and green, so it will give Minke sweet Mario dreams ;)
“Pattern” for the GS I used:
Ch 4 -> join in ring
ch3 and in same stitch dc2, ch1 dc3, ch1 dc3, ch1 dc3 -> join (with slipstitch) and cut off.
ch3 dc1 in same stitch ch2 dc2, dc1 in each next stitch (2x), dc2 ch2 (in corner) dc2, dc1 in each next stitch (2x), dc2 ch2 (in corner) dc2, dc1 in each next stitch (2x),dc2 ch2 (in corner) dc2, dc1 in each next stitch (2x) -> join (with slipstitch) and cut off….
UPdate (25-05-2010): I’ve finished all the squares and have started joining them. I’m joining them row by row. Every row consists of a few squares that are bound together by sowing the backloops of the stitches on the backside so it won’t show on the front (or atleast just a little bit).
I’ve joined 3 of the 16 rows so far (see picture) and have a lot more work to do….
UPdate (31-05-2010): I’m sorry to say that I have not yet finished it all… I’m now halfway on joining and finishing of the rows. It’s a bigger project to finish it all off than I thought at first. But maybe this week I’ll finish it finally… maybe…
I’ve bought the fabric to make the blanket with at a local handwork-supply store… A bit more pricey than I would have liked, but still reasonable.
20-07-2010:
I’ve finished! Well… the UP is done, I have not yet made a blanket for it, but i’m not sure that I ever will. So far, it’s hanging on a chair at home, where I can look at it all the time, and think about future projects!
