Notes

February 27, 2012 - Gave DH the replacement and decided to knit a back-up mitt, just in case. The replacement escaped before I even got a photo of it! Newest photo is of mitt # 1, 2, or 3 (who knows?) and ‘the spare’ #4. -- He promises to put them in his coat’s deep patch pocket from now on, not the shallow pocket in the side seam. :-)

February 20, 2012 - One mitt’s gone missing so I’m knitting him a replacement. Can’t get upset, right? - it’s the first item to have disappeared in six years of knitting for him.

December 16-18, 2011 - I knit these of wool I unraveled from a sweater, still in rather crinkled condition. Two strands make it about worsted weight.

Figured in about 20% negative ease, because I’ve learned mitts knitted with crinkled yarn expand after wear.

CO 33 sts w/#8, joined by knitting 1st & last sts tog.
Switched to #6 and knitted in-the-round, creating a 4 1/2” long 2x2 (K2P2) ribbed tube.

Then switch to knitting back and forth to create a 2” vertical thumb slit.
Rejoined and did 1 1/4” more ribbed tube.

BO w/#6, using “An Elastic Bind-Off”:

Work 2 sts in pattern.
-- Transfer both to L needle and K2tog TBL.
Then work next st in pattern.
Repeat from --

Results - one pair of custom-fitted charcoal fingerless mitts.

Nothing is ever that simple when I knit. You can read the entire convoluted story here.
