March 27, 2013 - Petite Scalloped Edging

1 sc, skip 1, 1 hdc, chain 3, repeat. I openly admit that I simply fudged things whenever I came to a corner. lol. I probably did each one a little differently.

March 1, 2013 - A Better Border

Redid the round ‘Light Yellow Green’ in plain dc so it’s denser, followed with 2 rounds of ‘Tea Leaf’ granny clusters’, but this time I omitted the chain stitches between leaving smaller holes, more like those in the granny squares of the blanket itself. Then another round of ‘Light Yellow Green’, again plain dc. Ah, I like this so much more!

I think some RHSS ‘Light Raspberry’ should come next, but what stitch?

January 25, 2013 - Border Trials

First round - switched to G hook, working granny clusters in Red Heart Soft ‘Light Yellow Green’, the same as the blanket’s background.

Thanks to Marie at the ‘Compact UK’ blog for her Flat Border Cluster, which I used whenever I came to a join between two squares. It Works Beautifully!! - I have a lovely flat edge.

Second round - plain double crochet with Simply Soft ‘Grape’. And Third - ano. round of green granny clusters. It looks so good!

Started on Fourth doing granny clusters with RHSS ‘Tealeaf’, but having a reconsider. Tealeaf is stiffer than the RH Soft and the Simply Soft. And those are pretty big holes between the ‘Light Yellow Green’ granny clusters. Maybe if I switch to a denser stitch the difference between the drape of ‘Light Yellow Green’ and the upcoming ‘Tealeaf’ won’t be as noticeable.

Ripping back. sigh.

January 16, 2013 - Only Four More

I’ve kept up with working in the yarn ends. Yay! Emily enjoys playing ‘Inspector 12’, making sure I hid them well.

Finished joining-as-I-go row 12 out of 16. Starting to feel like a real blanket!

October 3, 2012 - Progress

I have made so many one and two-round granny squares from scraps, I was able to pick out enough for a 11 square by 16 square blanket, instead of 10 x 15.

I’m more than half-way done joining them, dutifully working in my yarn tails as I go. They will not be able to taunt me at the end of this project!! lol.

I plan to add a multi-colored border.

August 29, 2012 - Planning

Not knowing how much yarn I’ll need for this granny’s background color, I’ve chosen Red Heart Soft ‘Light Yellow Green’, because I have five skeins of it in stash.

A three-round square (after the green is added) will be about 3 1/2” across. So if I go 10 squares by 15 squares (150 squares), the blanket’s 35” x 53” main body (before border) will be about about the same size as my kids-sized charity ripple afghans.

Alternating one and two-round squares, so need 75 of each size.

As I’m choosing squares that look best with the ‘light yellow green’ yarn, I’m sorting the rejects into cool and warm piles - the beginnings of two future scrap grannies!

August 1, 2012 - Mini scrap squares

Mini scrap balls, too small to crochet even one row in a ripple afghan, can become one and two round granny squares!

A good project to work on while camping.
No definite plans for the squares… yet.

FYI - A one-round granny squares only takes about 2 yards of yarn, a two-round one about 6 yards.
