Notes

Dec. 4, 2013 - Towel Ta-Dah!

Had a little extra warp at the end so played around with #10 crochet cotton as weft and warp creating a plaid.

Did a hot vigorous wash by hand, machine dried til barely damp and then pressed. Before hemming I zigzag stitched immediately before and after where I planned to cut to prevent unraveling, rather like when you steek a knitted item. Did double turn under hems.

My finished towels - washed, dried and hemmed - are 13 1/2” by 23”.

The combination of crochet cotton warp/worsted cotton weft turned out great! I love the feel of these towels. Want to weave a set of wider ones next.

Nov. 8, 2013 - Tiny Towels

My towels are coming out only 14” wide. What?! Checked the width at the heddle and discovered I only warped for 15”, not the 17 I’d intended. groan.

I blame it on this being my first time to warp with the triple peg. From the lovely chart I made I can tell that I skipped 2 one inch wide groups, one at the end of peg #1 and the other at beginning of peg #3. sigh.

Maybe these will be tiny towels for tiny dishes, or dainty fingertip towels! lol.

The good news - I have plenty of yarn! Towel one only used 2 ounces of the worsted so I’ll still have about 8 ounces left after towel two, plenty to do another set, a full-width set!!

I’m off to finish Tiny Towel #2.

Oct. 9, 2013 - Introducing Erica

First project on Erica loom. Using the 10 dent rigid heddle that came with it.

Weaving two dishtowels. Warp is #10 crochet cotton threaded single strand. Weft is mainly worsted weight Bernat Handicrafter cotton with natural #10 crochet on the ends so they’ll be easy to hem by machine.

Direct warped with loom clamped to table and triple warping peg clamped to a wheeled butcher block cart 2 yards away. Cranked a little, moved the cart, repeat. This technique worked very well!

P.S. For those of you who may have an Erica loom, here are the instructions, “flickr Erica loom 1975 Northfield Loom pamphlet”
