Used light worsted yarn, 85% acrylic/15% wool, that I had just unraveled from a 50 cent striped thrift store sweater. For some reason I thought the weaving process would make the remaining crinkles in the yarn go away. It didn’t, but running the damp scarf through a hot dryer did, somewhat. I like the remaining texture.
Because of the sweater’s stripes I only had short pieces of the five different colors of yarn: chartreuse, aqua, country blue, light blue and white, so I did a random striped warp with all two-strand stripes. The weft is randomly striped too with anywhere from two to five picks.
Because I was changing colors so often, instead of switching near the selvedge I just let the ends fall wherever they came. All those tiny yarn tail tufts just add to the scarf’s unique texture. lol.

I wove this scarf back in January 2010 on the vintage 20” Rigid Heddle loom that I had just gotten for Christmas. And then the loom sat gathering dust.
Jump forward to January 2013. A friend got a Cricket loom and we’ve signed up for the Rigid Heddle Weaving class in Craftsy. Hopefully I’ll get beyond the scarf stage this time!
