The second of two hats that I made as raffle prizes for the Triple Crown of 10k Exchanges!
Did 1.5” ribbing, same as the one I made for myself.
Used two metal dpns for portions of the inc rnd (previously I’d made do with just 1 plastic dpn); I highly recommend this. Both are a few sizes smaller than the working needles (the smaller the better).
There’s three types of incs in the inc rnd:
- For the M1C2Btbl, insert a dpn under the st from front to back, then pivot the long end that you’re holding to the left so that it parallels the left needle, which you then hold it behind as you complete the cable.
- For the M1T2Btbl, do the same thing.
- For the M1P that comes directly afterwards, pick up the stitch in the same way but keep rotating the dpn an additional 180°. Hold the dpn in front of the left needle and bring your yarn in front of them both. Using a second skinny dpn, purl the stitch (working through the front of it, because the 180° rotation took care of the “purl into the back” part of the instructions). Remove the original dpn from the stitch, enlargen the loop that’s currently on the second dpn, and slide that stitch onto the right needle. (It’s the size it ends at that matters gauge-wise, so the size of the needle you worked it on doesn’t matter as long as it ends up on the regular needle at the end.)
- The other M1P should be fine to work in the usual fashion since things aren’t so tight around it, though of course you could work it as above if you wanted to. (Also, I put markers in between each repeat on the inc rnd just so I could quickly double-check that I was where I thought I was, and then removed them on the following round because the rest of it’s pretty easy to read.)
