Notes

3/24/13
I just started this project and I’m so excited about it… I might even say obsessed. I’m going to make one doll for my daughter’s birthday in May, and another for my neice’s birthday in June, as mini-me’s with as many clothes as I can for each. I ordered the yarn for the body and hair from Drops, and while I’m waiting, I’m starting on the clothes. I read other knitter’s ideas and added a picot edge on the bottom of the vest to avoid curling, and it gives in a fun scalloped look. I also added 2 rows of 1x1 rib to the top of the shorts to avoid curling as well.

I knitted half of the head last night, and I have to say I’m LOVING the Drops Nepal yarn. It’s so soft, yet sturdy and easy to work with even with the smaller needle size. I’m also using circular needles with the magic loop method… as I prefer this over double points whenever possible.

4/3/13
Finished the head, added the eyes and stuffed it. Also tried out some curly hair and decided I like the crochet version MUCH better than the knit version.

4/4/13
Finished the body and half of one leg last night. (I wish there were more hours in a day and that I didn’t have a day job!) I also decided that I really didn’t like the “brown” eyes. They starting looking red/orange to me, and I didn’t want to make a vampire doll. So I switched to purple (man, those washers are hard to get off! on purpose, I’m sure… they don’t want kids pulling them off) because, hey, why not? It’s fun! And purple is my daughter’s favorite color anyway.

4/5/13
Finished the right leg and stuffed the body last night. LOVE the little toes! She still looks pretty creepy, with one leg, no arms, and no hair, but it’s fun to see her taking shape, and to imagine how cute she’ll be when she’s done. I tried a sock on her one leg, and realized that the yarn I used for the sock is pretty stiff & scratchy compared to the body, so I’m going to try soaking them in vinegar and washing them with shampoo and conditioner. If that doesn’t work, I might re-knit them with a different yarn.

4/7/13
A very productive weekend… Pixie is done!!! I used Drops Lima for the hair, a lighter version of Nepal, and it took 1 1/2 of the two 50 gram skeins I bought, and I made 22 curls, including 2 short ones and 2 medium ones to frame her face. I could have done more, but this seemed like a good amount for her. I also sewed a single crochet chain in a semi-circle cap against the back of her head under her curls, so she doesn’t look bald, and so she would look cute with a pony tail. I love how she turned out! She’s so beautiful and I can’t wait to make more clothes for her now!!!
