I used m1l for increases.
Increased 6 stitches spread across 16 rows or 2 pattern repeats.

Increasing on Pattern repeat 1:rows 1, 5, 7,
Pattern repeat 2: rows 1, 3, 7

I will knit the straight section the length I desire

Then I will decrease with K2tog

Decreasing on pattern repeat 1 rows:1,5,7
pattern repeat 2 rows: 1,3,7

The edge pattern is the “Diamond Panel” as found on Page 153 Reader’s Digest “The Ultimate Source Book of KNitting & Crochet Stitches”.
