Notes

My very first project! My mother gifted me a pack with ten skeins of petrol colored yarn, so after looking for a vintage pattern that was easy enough for me to follow I decided to knit this lovely cardigan. There were some things I did not understand at first, like DC (double crochet) and “working 1st row into back of sts.” but I was able to quickly figure that out with some googling and youtube-ing.

When I finished the back I noticed that the ribbing was going to be awfully tight, so I decided to add 4 stitches to each front piece.

I finished one sleeve and am now knitting the right front but I noticed there are two small mistakes in the pattern. With the sleeve it says at the end “stitch the 10 cast off sts. to the side of sts. worked for 1 1/2 inches.” This should be 9 sts, not 10.

For the right front it says to space the buttonholes 2 1/4 inches apart but that’s not right. If you want 7 buttons like the pattern originally has you should put them +/- 2 3/4” apart. Otherwise you’ll end up with 8 buttonholes. I quickly figured out the calculation error they probably made. They took the length from the top button to the bottom one and divided it by 7. But that should have been 6. (There are 6 spaces between the 7 buttons)

Finished! I love it! I ended up knitting 3 rows of k1 p1 rib around the neckline because I didn’t like the way the double crochet looked. I’m amazed it worked because I had no idea what I was doing! The 4 stitches I added to each front piece because I thought it would be too small were totally unnecessary.

One thing I would change, if I where to knit this again, is replace the current buttonholes with the facings for a separately knitted button band.
