Notes

Knitting for another film, this time a beautifully imagined fairy story. One of the characters, the mother, will be wearing a knitted wool dress outdoors. As I only have two weeks to make it, we’ve chosen Morris and Sons ‘Maya for a quick cosy knit. Although expensive, it knits up beautifully and is the perfect colour.

Lucy plays the mother and her measurements are:

Waist - 73cm
Bust - 82cm
Nape - elbow - 48cm
Upper arm - 27cm
Fore arm - 20 cm
Nape - floor - 140cm
Mid-patella - heal (standing) - 41cm

The director and costume designer loved the big cable pattern of Amy’s Roam Tunic, but to make a dress, I’ve made some substantial alterations, including leaving off the ribbing and lengthening the body to the knee and the sleeves past the elbow.

swatch on 6.5mm needles 14/20 stocking stitch knitting in the round using cubics
swatch on 6.5mm needles cable panel 20 cm in the round using cubics

knit in the round without ribbing
add length to knee, 3/4 length sleeves, no collar

cast on 130 with 6.50mm needles
knit 64 purl 1 (side seam) repeat once, join round
k15, work 1st row of cable panel, k12, p1, repeat once

begin waist decreasing after 31cm from start allowing the hem to roll

decreases and increases every 14 rows

cast off for underarm after 154 rows
3 sts before the BOR marker, cast of 7 sts (3 sts each from front and back and purl ‘seam’ stitch), repeat at other side to match. 54 sts each for front and back

work underarm decreases as per pattern

work back for 38 rows, finish shoulders as per pattern

work front for 20 rows, work 19 sts, cast off centre sets to last 19 sts, cast off 3 sts at the neck edge three times

decrease at neck edge once (9 sts)

neck
pick up evenly (every second stitch) around the neck, join in the round and knit three rows, cast off

sleeves
pick up 46 sts and one seam sts (45 sts)
short rows using sunday short rows 2 sts for 6 short rows, 3 sts for the remaining.
after short rows work sleeve decreases (ssk, k2, p1, k2 k2tog) next row and every 5th row to 29 sts
work 75 rows from shoulder seam, cast off

Fantastic pattern, again Amy, thank you!
