My first ever socks!

My ‘little’ bro requested ‘bed socks’ for his birthday this year. I interpreted this as ‘house socks’ but they could also be cosy wellie socks. He works outdoors with livestock and lives in a chilly Scottish cottage so I think these are just about right. He is pretty much the only person other than my Mum that I would make socks for.

Using reclaimed yarn from a friend of my granny-in law, DK held double, these are substantial socks. They are somewhat stiff, which reminds me of the ‘bobban socks’ my Granny used to make from leftover Harris Tweed wool.

I went a bit wrong with the cable pattern after turning the heel, I forgot to alternate the cables and ribs, but got so far before noticing the mistake that I decided to go with it. I think they look OK anyway.

These killed my hands- DK held double on 5mm circ with my tight knitting was a bad idea.
