Notes

This is a great little sweater! I made the 1-year size, and it fits my 8-month-old son with a little room to spare.

I ordered the pattern from the Nostebarn website (which is in Norwegian--it took some quality time with Google Translate in order to figure out how to place my order), and they ended up emailing me the PDF for free because I was outside of their shipping area. So generous of them! And Ravelry user rainbowgoblin made my life much easier by sharing her English translation of the pattern with me once I provided proof of owning the Norwegian pattern. Thank you, Nostebarn and Jes!

Instead of knitting the sweater bottom, cuffs, and collar in stockinette st (for a rolled edge), I used k1p1 rib.

For the sleeve increases, I increased every 6 rows by kfb in the sts immediately before and immediately after the middle st.

I did 1-row stripes, alternating white and yellow, until I joined the body and sleeves, at which point I switched to all white. If I were going to do it again, I’d wait to switch to white until the part where you stop knitting in the round. I’d also pay more attention to where the stripe jogs were on the sleeves when I joined them to the body--I thought I was positioning them so that the jogs would be on the undersides of the arms, but instead they’re in the middle, so they’re pretty visible. Good thing Arlo waves his arms around a lot--it distracts from the jogs!

When it was time to knit the collar, I had 93 sts (instead of 84), so I decreased 9 sts evenly around during my first row of knitting on the smaller needles.

I like the use of crochet to add button holes at the end. It made me feel multi-talented! I found the vintage shell buttons at Button Emporium in Portland, OR. They’re the perfect shade of yellow for this sweater!

After the fact, I realized that I accidentally switched needle sizes halfway through knitting the sweater. I used 2.5mm needles for the sleeve and collar ribbing, 3.0mm needles for the body ribbing and sleeves, and 3.5mm needles for the body and yoke. It didn’t seem to make a big difference.
