Notes

I am going to knit Monkey with all knit stitches (I think it looks nicer) and with short-row heel (and maybe toe).

I am used to knitting my Regia socks using 72 stitches in Regia 4ply on a 2 mm circular needle (magic-loop) to get a tight enough fabric for the soles to be comfortable to walk on. this pattern needs to be multiples of 16 so I either need to do 64 or 80 stitches. 72 is always slightly tight so I think I will try 80.

I will use this short-row method.

I have finished the first sock. I did a short row heel using the method above and the toe as described in the Monkey pattern, decreasing until there were 16 stitches (eight on each of the two magic-loop circular needle ends) before kitchenering/grafting the toe. The sock is very snug but fits. I should have done a few more plain knit rounds I think before the toe decreases but not the whole eleven rows worth of pattern.
