Used leftover DK yarn from my “stash” (leftovers bag). Knitted this hat in dark brown with mushroom stripes in the medium size the first time based on measuring my head but it was a little thin and on the tight side so I knitted a second one in the large size in mushroom with dark brown stripes and sewed the first inside-out inside the second using blanket stitch and the mushroom yarn to make the finished hat double thickness and warmer. I am going to add plaited tags to the ear-flaps to make the pulling of the ears easier for me, what with my walking stick and so on.

I am tempted to make this in the larger size but double using the double knitting technique and/or using thicker yarn. I see some prototyping happening in my future once I have finished my current aran sweater project, perhaps all in one colour using leftover yarn from that sweater.
