I make one pair of slippers after the other from this stash of ancient yarn. It’s rough and very thick and rather warm (75% wool plus acrylic) and it takes a bit to walk a hole into them. Then I throw them away and start wearing the next pair.
The soles are made of duct tape. When I walked through the plastic- and fabric layer it gets sticky, I then simply add another layer of duct tape.
For Summer I made shoes from thin cotton which are more durable than I thought.
I just tried something new and made the shoes from package cord; they should be really durable! (Those are the ones in the picture)
