Gentlemans Sampler Afghan
Gentleman's Sampler Afghan and Pillow by Nicky Epstein
The boy
Blanket sized?
Needles & yarn

From an early 2012 blog post about this long term UFO…

This is from Nicky Epstein’s Book Knitting for Your Home (which is out of print these days). I actually got to meet Nicky at Craft Show in Melbourne a few years ago and she kindly autographed my book and told me that it is now considered a rare item. This was intended initially to become a cushion for my son’s room. He choose the patterns and colours for the initial two squares we made and the buttons we used. It goes with the decor in his room where the interior walls are painted to resemble stone castle walls.

This one is definitely a keep and finish. Need to decide what other squares to make now.

2015 - a new year and a new plan. I need a new long term rug project. These two squares are going to become the basis of a modular, square-based afghan. We are sourcing patterns wider than the original gentleman’s sampler afghan though. It’s going to incorporate all the cool intarsia and colourwork flat animal heads I have patterns for. So foxes and racoons and reindeer. Just knit an odd squre here and there as I go. Colour palette: reds and greens, navy blues, tweedy mixes, etc…
