This is a modified “Undergrowth” hat. Because I was using worsted weight yarn, I had to skip over several rows to decrease the total height as well as modify the colorwork through the decreases. I knit it in the round with the hat held inside out to better insure that my floats stayed loose. It worked beautifully.

To select what yarn to use, I literally brought my new coat into Michaels and walked down the aisle until I found the yarns that matched the best. Not fancy yarn, but matching the colors was more important to me.

The photos were taken by my 3 year old with the iPad so the red tones are slightly more vibrant in the photos than in reality.
