Notes

I am going to knit this hat for my trip to Rhinebeck this fall. I will modify the pattern by brightening the colors, reducing the darkness of the clouds and adding more leaves. Afterall its October in Rhinebeck.

2016-09-14: Complete knitting hat; weave in ends. Blocking now.

Summary

  • I am doing 8 rounds of corrugated rib instead of 6.

  • I have shortened the height of the hat.

  • I have modified the top of the hat design, patterned after what I did in “Fall’s End’ and in “Snow Squall”. This time I’ve changed the color to sky blue, since the clouds are still puffy and the sky blue in October.

  • I have added substantially more leaves to the trees.

  • I am stranding the hat.

  • I have tried to minimize the number of 4 color rounds. These typically happen in the background transition areas. Rounds 4, 5, 21 36, 37, 38, 39, 40, 41, 42 have 4 colors.

  • Starting weights:

    • finnley heather: 39.7 grams
    • sky blue: 38.1 grams
    • sweet potato: 50.2 grams
    • salsa heather: 48.4 grams
    • bittersweet heather: 29.6 grams, 49.6 grams
    • silver: 29.8 grams.
  • Ending weights:

    • finnley heather: 28.7 grams
    • sky blue: 29.6 grams
    • sweet potato: 40.9 grams
    • salsa heather: 44.5 grams
    • bittersweet heather: 12.7 grams, 48.9 grams
    • silver: 25 grams.

Next Time

  • The purls in the corrugated rib should be the same color as the cast on edge.

  • Drop ash to bottom of branches.
