Notes

This comes out quite big. The finished hat “sits” on my head more than hugs it. Several women at the knitting shop I teach at all had the same problem.

Other than that, it was a great knit. The pleats were fun and different from most patterns and the final hat is super cute.

I gave this pattern a high difficulty rating because the designer doesn’t do a great job explaining the crown decreases, you have to infer a lot the way she has it written. I wrote out instructions for myself. If you are struggling with the crown, send me a message and I’d be happy to pass along my more thorough instructions.

Got fed up with just how loose this hat was getting--the yarn was stretching soooo much--that I just threw it in the wash one day. It did shrink considerably, but it also lost a ton of stitch definition. You can see the top photos are very different from the earlier photos below.

I think it was just a bad yarn-pattern combination. They yarn didn’t have enough memory to handle this more structural pattern. It would have worked better with something that was meant to drape.
