Notes

I remember the exact day that I started these socks because it was election day and I knit the toe while Andrew was in some school gymnasium casting his vote. (I voted by mail… YEAH for a Blue New Mexico!)

I know that these socks are going to end up too big because I had to cast on 72 stitches for the 12 stitch repeat but the yarn is thicker than a standard fingering weight yarn. I still love them and I’m still knitting happily away on them.

I don’t know how I paired this pattern with this yarn. I don’t think if I were sane I ever would have paired the two since I don’t normally trust variegated yarn and textured patterns together but I love it and I’m glad I went temporarily insane.

Updated photos taken 9 years later. After 9 years this yarn has held up remarkably well. Even though it makes no claims to being superwash, I have thrown this in the machine on delicate many times--its the only way I wash them. No signs of felting.

In fact, if anything these socks are too big. The heel flap could have been .25 of an inch shorter at least. The yarn has gotten so soft over the years though. They are very comfy to wear and they are amazing at keeping my feet warm in the winter.

As far as I can tell, there are no weak spots at all. No places getting thin under the ball or the heel, no holes rubbing at the back of the heel or poking out the toe--all the usual weak spots. I’d really never have guessed that the yarn would hold up this amazingly. I’d use it again!
