To fit 8-10” broad foot

13st fishermans rib (sl 1st st on every row, purl on WS, k1, k1-below on the RS) knit to 1” longer than can wrap around my ankle, 2 buttonholes then 1” more. C/Off top edge, pick-up & C/Off along left slip-stitch edge until 33 sl st remain (~2.5”). PU sl st and work in p1 k1 rib to end. Join in the round. Work 6 rounds in rib.

Heel flap - work 8 st in rib, turn and work back in rib (sl 1st st of every row) for 17st. Cont to work flap in rib for 11 more rows. WS sl 1, work in rib 8st, ssk, k1, turn. Sl 1, p2 p2tog, p1, turn. Sl1, k to 1st before gap, ssk, k1, turn. Sl 1, p to 1st before gap, p2tog, p1, turn. Repeat till 9st remain ending on a WS row.

Gusset: sl1 k8, PU & ktbl 7sl st +1st between flap and top of foot. Top of foot cable row 1: C4b (p1, k1 & p1, k1)x2, p1, C4f (p1, k1 & p1, k1)x2. PU 1st between top of foot & flap, PU & ktbl 7 sl st. Decr 1st either side of sole on next and 3 foll alt rows (till sole = 17st) and work cable pattern on top of foot as follows - 2rows straight rib, cable row 2 (p1, k1, C4f, p1, k1x2, p1, C4b, k1, p1), 2 rows straight, cable row 3 (C4fx2, p1, C4bx2), 2 rows straight, Cable row 4 (p1, k1, C4b, p1, k1x2, p1, C4f, k1, p1), 2 rows straight, cable row 1 again - repeat until measure 2” shorter than your foot.

Decr 2st sole/ 2st top of foot on next and 2alt rows, then every row till 5st remain. graft toes tog.

For right foot work 1 extra row of cuff & C/off p-wise on WS to reverse the position of the buttons. When you’ve picked up & c/off 10 sl st on the WS p-wise, turn, join in the round and commence the rib (beginning with a p1)
