Notes

Fabric from Antoinette. Commercial yarns - green/grey chenille in the weft, black wool in the warp. Tabby weave with experimental pick-up sticks section. Total width of fabric after finishing = 25.5”. Fabric used widthwise in the garment, so maximum length of skirt = 25” minus hems.

Decided to use the fabric in a skirt with the pick-up section just below the waist. In the photo the skirt still needs hemming, which I’ll do with a bias binding to save bulk because the fabric is quite thick.

I stabilised the cut edges with light weight fusible woven interfacing, which seems to work well. As a first attempt at sewing handwoven fabric, I’m pleased with the result.

The pattern is a modified version of a skirt pattern written specifically for hand woven fabric by Sarah Howard. The modification is the insertion of a kick pleat in the centre rear seam to allow for more ease of movement.
