Notes

13 repeats of hem pattern - 20 sts per repeat. Cast on 260.

End 12 sets of hem patterns with an arch and continue in stocking stitch. Run 13th repeat of hem pattern into a twisted stitch pattern over 22 sts, 12 rows per repeat, to run up centre front.

Cast off 6 stitches for under-arms, then on every other row 2 twice, then then 1 stitch 2 times (total of 14 stitches cast off on each armhole). Continue knitting until arm hole measures 5.5 ins, then begin front neck shaping. next time I should reduce more stitches to make shoulders narrower

3” before shoulders (row 5 of pattern) place centre 45 stitches on holder. Decrease at each side of neck edge every round for an inch and a half (to row 12 of pattern). Then knit straight to 3” from held stitches (will be row 11 of pattern). Start Short row shaping on shoulders 8, 8, 7.

Rejoin and shape back neck. 1.5 ins from shoulders put on waste yarn the same number of stitches as had been decreased on front neck to this point (i.e, 44 + however many had been decreased to 1.5” before shoulders). Then decrease on either side of back neck opening at the same rate as front neck opening was done for last 1.5 inches of front.

Decided to gradually increase the width of the pattern up the front, so I did two repeats and then started extending it out on either side one stitch at a time. I had a bit of a struggle getting the central pattern to work with increasing pattern on either side of it, but after tinking 4 times I think it’s there.

Plan is to do to one 12-row repeat increasing, then 2 more 12 row pattern repeats keeping the new stitch count, then increasing again.

24-02-2018

Waist shaping - start 10 rows after final hem pattern row. Decrease 1 stitch on each side of side markers = 4 stitches decreased per round. Repeat a further 3 times on every 10th round. Knit 20 rounds even. Increase 1 stitch on each side of side markers = 4 stitches increased per round. Repeat increases a further 3 times on every 10th round. Continue even until work measures 14” before beginning to shape for armholes.

26-02-2018

Break for neck after row 4 of pattern.

28-02-2018

Pick up 92 stitches around armscye. Place marker on st 46, k 15 sts beyond that, w&t, then 46 back past marker again. W&T every stitch to beginning of armscye shaping. N.b. Next time I need to pick up fewer stitches around armscye to reduce bunching

01-03-2018

Reduce to 6” at wrist = 46 sts
Total decreases from 92 stitches to 46 stitches = 23 decrease rounds. Decrease every 6 rounds.

Finished. I’m generally quite pleased with it, but it suffers from the same problem around the sleeves/upper bust area that most of my projects do; too much fabric causing bunching. I need to find out how to fix that, because it’s annoying and spoils the line of the garment. The shoulders are slightly too wide. Otherwise happy.
