2010-09-29: the plan is to make this quite a bit shorter; more like a pelerine. i wanted something that knits up quickly, but still has some interest, like a cable.

did not do ribbing for the collar, but stockinette, and only about half the rows, since i don’t like stuff high on my neck. rolls up nicely.

had a little trouble figuring out how to start the actual pattern. try as i might, the last increase seems designed to happen after the row is over, and that just appeared weird. i also didn’t grok right away that the cable stitch marker sits in the middle of the 8 cable stitches; i was expecting two markers at both sides instead. i think i’ll rewrite it to do it that way; i don’t like knitting blind into a marker; realizing too late that i should have started the cable a few stitches before where i am now.

it’s going speedily though; nice switch from lace knitting to bulky weight.

2010-09-30: the cable is totally wasted on this yarn, snicker. heck, the entire effort is wasted on this yarn. i swear i am not a total yarn snob, but while i like the tweediness effect, the feel is so… acrylicky. i think i will do another one in a much nicer yarn where the cable is actually visible. but hey, it was good practice, and it fits exactly the way i wanted it to. getting pretty decent at yarn substitution when that changes the gauge.
