Aiming for 37” - 38” finished size with positive ease, 3/4 sleeves. Mom doesn’t like clingy wears.
Tried casting on 74 sts, and the neck opening is very tight!
Tried to incorporate seed stitch cowl neck as mom love cowl neck & seed st, but find it very tight using 4.0mm with CO84. So in the end, used the good old 1x1 rib for stretchability.
1/11/13:
- Using 4.0mm, CO 84, switch to 3.5mm
- 1x1 rib & proceed with short row
- work till piece measure 1.5” on back, 0.75” on front
- switch to 4.0mm
- decrease 10 sts evenly to get 74 sts sizing
- proceed lace & cable for 7 rows
Raglan increase got really confusing for me, so I made this diagram (picture) to help keep track.
Setup row:
- 6sts raglan cable, 5sts sleeve lace, 6sts raglan cable,
- 7sts body lace, 6sts center cable, 7sts body lace,
- 6sts raglan cable, 5 sts sleeve lace, 6sts cable,
- 7sts body lace, 6sts center cable, 7sts body lace,
- Bird’s eye view, each line represent the 6 sts cable.
- I kept ring marker at before & after each raglan cable
- except at beginning of round, yo before & after each raglan cable. At the end of round, yo again (last increase)
As raglan increase: (will coincide with rnd 1 & rnd 3 of lace)
sleeve lace sts count will increase by 2
(ie. initial 5sts --> 7sts --> 9sts --> 11sts --> 13 sts)
body lace sts count will increase by 1
(ie. initial 7sts --> 8 sts --> 9sts --> 10sts --> 11sts)
1/13/2013:
Chugging along… made it past the yoke with 202 sts. Right on! Woot! Now comes the difficult part…. to st st or not. With the hot tropical weather year round, all these st st is not gonna be a pleasant wear even with 100% cotton yarn. After much consideration, think I’ll:
- keep 5 sts of the lace all along down the sleeves.
- after bust, maybe repeat lace & cable all the way down, finished with a seed st border. Yes, gotta incorporate some seed st in there for mom!
Mods made to sleeves after yoke in place of st st:
- after raglan marker, k16, pm, worked 5 sts of lace rnd 1, pm, k16
1/21/2013:
Went with st st after bust, and incorporate cable & 7 sts lace on the side instead.
Skipped all shaping, added seed stitch border.
The 1x1 ribbing neck border is starting to get to me! As I’ve finished the pullover today, with seed st border at the bottom and sleeves, the 1x1 rib is just sticking out like a sore thumb!
So… now I am going to attempt to rip back from the CO! I’ve used cable CO. Should have went with provisional CO instead! But ah well, too late now. Focusing on what’s at hand. Sometimes, I question my own sanity! May the force be with me!

Done! Double up on the yarn, and used 3.5mm for the neck border so it would hold up like a semi-cowl collar.
The pullover turned out GREAT! It was the PERFECT fit and drape. It gives this very “airy” breathable feel, light, and have that silk cloth kinda drape since I used a 4.0mm needle.
Unfortunately, these perfectness was all WASHED away after coming out from the cold water washer and low temp dryer! :( Not only has the pullover shrunk (which I can handle, coz it still fit, just not as loose as before washing), but it also gives that “felt like” quality of a wool yarn. VERY disappointing indeed! :( And that silk-cloth-like drape is gone! :( replaced by a denser, stiffer pullover.
