I had enough Chroma in Fossil to make another pair of mitts, so I came up with this design:

Cast on 45 stitches (13, 17, 15)
16 rounds of 3 x 2 ribbing
Continue in ribbing, but work C3F 3 times on needle 2 (back of hand)
begin gusset increases on round 3 of second cable pattern repeat

Gusset for right hand mitt:
On needle 3, K3, P1, pm, m1, pm, P1, (K3, P2) twice
Knit 2 rounds plain, then increase 2 stitches, one after the first marker, one right before the second marker.
Continue increasing every 3rd round until there are 15 stitches between the markers. Knit 2 more rounds plain.

Knit to 3rd needle, K3, P1, put gusset stitches on a holder, P1, knit to end of needle in pattern.

Continue knitting the hand in 3 x 2 ribbing, doing the cable pattern on the back of the hand, until there are 11 cable crosses. Knit 8 rounds of 3 x 2 ribbing. Cast off.

Repeat for the left hand, only work the gusset on the first needle. Gusset set-up:
K3, P2, K3, P1, pm, m1, pm, P1, K3
