I forgot to take pictures of all the towels before giving them away as Christmas gifts, so this is just one of the 2 I still have that are destined as a gift to my neighbor.

I leave my lease sticks in while I weave. After getting my warp tied on, I slide it back over the warp beam and tie it to the beam and back legs. It doesn't reduce my shed at all and it help keeps the ends organized.

The warp goes through the reed in the middle. It looks like it is closer to the top of the reed because the beater is in the back position.

Here's a view from the front. The raddle is secured to the beater using hockey skate laces that are secured around the front legs of the loom with half bows. I used 6-inch Irwin Quick Grip clamps to secure the beater so it doesn't move forward or backward while I wind the warp.

The warp has been spread in the raddle, and the raddle has been moved to the top of the beater. The warp rod is lashed to the warp stick and the warp is ready to be beamed.

Notes

The draft for these towels has 4 different color ways, and I plan to weave all 4. I already did yellow, so now I am doing blue.

488 ends
24 ⅖ inches in the reed
10 dent reed sleyed at 2 ends per dent
20 epi/20 ppi in 2/2 twill with plain weave hems

The warp is all 8/2 cotton. The weft is cotton slub yarn, but the hems are woven in 8/2 cotton.

The weft is a single color for all the towels. The hem is woven in plain weave, but the rest of the towel is woven in 2/2 twill that changes direction with each different color of warp stripe. All the patterning is done via the threading; the treadling is the same throughout (except for pw for the hems), 4,3,2,1. Easy peasy. Unlike the first set of towels, this time I didn’t have any threading errors, although I did have a sleying error that I had to fix. Fortunately, it was near the end of the reed so I didn’t have to rethread too many bouts. I also had a warping error, having wound too many ends of the lavender in one of the stripes, but that’s an easy fix. I just removed those threads and left them hanging off the back of the loom. As I advance the warp, I wind the threads on a cardboard core to keep everything neat and tangle free. Funny, I did the same thing on my last warp. It’s a much easier fix than when I don’t have enough ends.

The warp is supposed to be 24 ⅖ inches in the reed. Mine is 24 inches and it’s close to the maximum my Julia can handle.
