CO 48 sts - ribbing (k1-p1) for 10 rows then begin the broken seed stitch pattern (applied here to a pair of gloves instead of socks).

After 40 rows of the stitch pattern start increasing for the thumb gusset.

Right hand glove: On the first needle, knit 2 following the pattern, then make 1 st, knit 2 sts and make 1 st, then continue following the stitch pattern. Increase 2 sts every 4th row and knit all the stitches between the increases. Do increases until there’s 26 sts on the first needle.

Left hand glove: On the fourth needle, knit following the pattern until there’s 4 sts remaining, make 1 st, knit 2 sts, make 1 and knit following the pattern to the end of the row. Increase 2 sts every 4th row and knit all the stitches between the increases. Do increases until there’s 26 sts on the fourth needle.

After completing the thumb gusset increases, knit following the stitch pattern until you get to the gusset stitches (16 sts). Pick them up on a waste yarn and cast-on 2 sts and continue following the stitch pattern (you should now have 12 sts on your 1st/4th needle again).

When you’ve reached the base of your pinky finger, start ribbing (k1-p1) with one colour for 10 rows. Bind off loosely.

Pick up the stitches on the waste yarn, pick up four more stitches and divide them onto three needles and rib (k1-p1) for 10 rows and bind off loosely. Weave in the ends.
