Notes

Notes for next time: 1x1 ribbed bind off helped flatten moss stitch and prevent stockinette curl - next time do this for sleeve edge and cast on as well, if possible. Flat line transition from body color to collar looks odd; should have made that a zigzag transition as well for consistency. Increases and decreases I used left little peepholes in side seam, would use different M1 and K2tog next time.

Original pattern calls for 9 balls total to make size L (91cm/36” chest, 38cm/15” length to underarm), in 5 different colors. 5 of main colour, 1 each of 4 accent colours.

I have 12 balls in 6 colours. 3 each of 1407 Dk. Spruce, 1405 Midnight Spruce, 9421 Pale Spruce. 1 each of 0051 Soft White, 1417 Moss Green, and 1419 Troll Brown. Going to try size L even though I am closer to XL with 38” bust, I’m fairly petite (5’4”, 140lbs) so will just wing it and hope that blocking hard gives me more boob space.

Color fade from dark at bottom to light at neck:
1407 Dk. Spruce 3 balls from CO, 1.5 balls = 8” of stockinette, change to 9421 Pale Spruce to complete body and start of yoke, then do design chart using 1 ball each of 0051, 1417, 1419, and 1405 for accents.

Body:
CO 164 sts using 3.5mm circular. Join and work 5 rounds in moss st. Change to 4.5mm and work in stockinette. Place markers either side of body 82 sts apart.
Start 3 decreases:

  • Work 7cm/3” then decrease 2 sts on each side of marker (SSK, K2tog) - 160 sts.
  • Work 5cm/2” more, decrease again as before - 156 sts.
  • Work 5cm/2” more, decrease again as before - 152 sts. Start 3 increases:
  • Work 5cm/2”, increase 2 sts either side of marker (Lifted increase: K into right loop of st below next st, k1. K next st, k into left loop of st below st just knitted) - 156 sts.
  • Work 5cm/2”, increase again as before - 160 sts.
  • Work 7cm/3”, increase again as before - 164 sts. Work evenly until body measures 38cm/15” from cast on edge. Do not work last 6 st’s of final round.

Yoke: Start at 6 sts BEFORE purple marker
(164 sts around, 82 per side)

  • Cast Off / CO 12 sts for Left underarm
  • Work front 70 sts
  • Cast Off / CO 12 sts for Right underarm
  • Work back 70 sts : Next round!
  • Cast On / CO 47 sts for left shoulder
  • Knit front 70 sts
  • Cast On / CO 47 sts for right shoulder
  • Knit back 70 sts Now at 234 sts total in the round. : For next 3 rounds!
  • Work stitches over the shoulder in moss stitch, continue front and back in stockinette.
  • Increase 3 stitches for Left shoulder
  • K 11 sts, inc 1 st, K 12 sts, inc 1 st, K 12 sts, inc 1 st*
  • Knit 82 sts, repeat increase above for Right shoulder
  • Knit to end of round, 240 stitches total in the round : The chevron design (SEE CHART)
  • Work in Stockinette st pattern and decreases from Chart as indicated.
  • Change to shorter circular when needed.
  • When chart work is complete, 90 sts in round

Neckband: Change to 3.5 mm needle

  • Knit 1 round, decrease evenly spaced 16 sts
  • Round should now be 74 sts total
  • Work 3 rounds in moss stitch
  • Bind off loosely in K1, P1 rib

Finishing: Weave in loose ends, rinse by hand in lukewarm water, lay flat to dry.

( Purple marker indicates start of round (front left), green markers show 20 stitch intervals along back; Yellow marker indicates halfway point (front right seam), orange markers show 20 stitch intervals along front.)
