About the yarn…
I had some trouble figuring out what yarn to use. The suggested yarn in the pattern is a worsted weight yarn combined with fingering weight. However, the pattern goes on to say that you can use any yarn, as long as it’s fingering weight…
I decided to go with 4ply/fingering, if it would turn out small (which I was hoping for), my 5 year old would have some nice mittens, if they would turn up adult sized, I’d have some nice mittens myself ;) thankfully they turned out perfect for my girl.
I bought a Hema cream, “fine” ravelry states it is a 3ply light fingering. I also bought Action acrylic, apparently a 5ply/sports yarn according to ravelry. However, both looked 4 ply to me, both are exactly the same thickness and both measure 257 meters at 50 gram. So I’m lost as to what yarn I’ve used. I would settle for the middle and call it 4ply :D
The Pattern…
Chart is very clear, instructions also clear, though not many words are spent on instructions. Very fast knit!
Alterations
I made the wristband a little longer to allow for movement and playing. I knit 10 rows of grey on needles size 2, then changed to cream, knit 5 rows, change back to grey and knit 10, knit another 5 rows of cream and change back to grey to knit until your good. I think I knit 8 rows, then did the increases and then changed my needles to size 3.
I decided to omit the last repeat of the hearts, so I have 4 rows of hearts. Otherwise, I followed the pattern exactly, so cast on 56 stitches etcetera.
Also I omitted one heart repeat from the thumb. Overall it’s a perfect fit for my very average 5 yo! :D <3
Overal
First time I tried my hand on stranded knitting whilst holding 2 colors at the same time :D awesome! The strands make for a nice, fuzzy and warm interior.
Will definately make this pattern again, have already received some requests about this ;) I really REALLY love how it turned out <3
