I started this as my first knitting project. I had a vision before I took up knitting of an afgan in neutral colors. I bought 3200 yards of yarn for my first project! I see now that that was crazy but my friends couldn’t dissuade me at the time.
Needless to say, it has spent a lot of time in hibernation. After at least a year away, I pulled it back out in June 2008 with hopes of finishing during Project Spectrum Air. I decided to take the 25 squares I had done, knit 7 more, and split them into two and make two baby blankets with 16 squares each.
7/2/2008 - Finished knitting the last square. Now just have to sew it all together.
8/10/2008 - Finally finished sewing everything together. Decided to call it done, but then…
April 2009 - Decided to pick up and knit a garter border.
5/1/2009 - Finished the garter border (pictures on the top). Final dimensions: 35 inches wide by 34 inches tall.
This was my very first knitting project ever so it is great to finally call it done!
Gave it to my sister for her first child, born Feb 2012. Isn’t she adorable?
Patterns Used:
(Pictures match, from the bottom up.) I began by knitting plain stockinette squares. I then used 100 Afghan Squares to Knit by Debbie Abrahams and knit the Sea Wall basketweave and Twine cables patterns from the book. The last set is from the Embossed Twining Vine Leaf from Barbara Walker.
