I basically used the Drake pattern for the shoulder construction. I chose the cables, got my own gauge, then fit it to Sam’s measurements. Once I got to the shoulders I chose the Drake size that had a similar stitch count and followed its instructions for the shoulder and collar.

Also, as per this discussion, I added an extra purl stitch between the sleeve decreases and then later went in and put in a mattress stitch seam to give extra strength to the shoulders.
