The Neat Ripple pattern was the basis - when I had the afghan to a decent length, I improvised the edging. On the short edges, I simply continued the ripple pattern; the last 2 rounds I used single crochet without increases or decreases. On the long edges, I used a pattern of chain stitch/slip stitch, crocheting into the slip on subsequent rounds.
