If I’d been trying to make a sweater for a toddler, this would have been great. I wasn’t. Oops. Much, much, much too big. Intended for a baby, and it fit my 3 year old (who is small, but not that small - about 32 pounds). It would have needed to be a couple inches longer in the body and it would have fit him perfectly. Full excuses in the blog post.

Here’s what I did in case I ever want to make one this size on purpose:

CO 60.
Buttonholes at 7, 23, 39, 55, 71, 87
Increased with k,kfb (instead of k2, m1) rows 9, 18, 23.
Started gull pattern row 31.

Divided sts to knit body first, starting on row 47 (row 1 of gull pattern):
knit 4st of garter border, knit 32 st of gull pattern, put 28 st on holder for sleeve, CO 7 for underarm, knit 55 st for back, CO 7 for other underarm, put 28 st on holder for sleeve 2, knit 32 st in pattern, knit 4 garter st.

Total number of gull pattern repeats for body: 14 (through row 86).

Decreased as per pattern on first garter row. Knit 7 rows in garter stitch, bound off on row 92.

I stopped knitting but would have picked up stitched (including 7 under arm) and knit arm in the round.

One skein of yarn would not have been enough to complete the sweater. Probably would have taken 1.25 - 1.5 skeins.
