Notes

To check gauge in linen stitch while knitting flat: CO even # stitches, knit right side with linen stitch as written in pattern. Wrong side: P1, slip as if to purl with yarn in back.

9/22: Knit slightly narrower earflaps and made up the extra few stitches on both the front and back. This hat flies after the pokey linen-stitch band. I’m not switching to the larger needles after the linen-stitch band because I’m too lazy too look for them.

9/24: Arg! Too many stitches picked up the first time on the border - it made the edge ruffle out funny. Too few stitches picked up the second time, and the earflaps curled under. The third time was the charm… It is worth it to pick up the stitches though - gives it a more polished look.

(Not sure why the main color was named “deep olive”. It had a very, very faint greenish cast but my ball was decidedly brown-looking.)
