Pair 8 2014

I have kept in mind that these socks (for homeless) might well get worn constantly. 100% wool wears quickly but is very warm and comfortable. The main yarn in these is 20% nylon. I have used leftovers (100%) to reinforce the toes and heels.

I hunted around for reinforced heels and toes and the best I could come up with was along the lines of “jacquard”.

I made them toe up using magic cast on.

To make the “jacquard” I used a smaller (2.00mm) needles and knitted one stitch of each yarn across every row - hence the vertical stripes. This make a very firm “fabric”.

I had to increase the number of stitches and when it came to use only one yarn I had to reduce the number to the normal amount.

The heel and foot was made similarly but for the heel construction which is knit one row and purl back I used the main yarn to knit and purled back using the secondary colour and only picked up stitches on every second row.

…confused!!! … well I’m still working towards an better model.
