Very easy, very smooth - just lots ‘n’ lots of V sts.

This cloth starts with a dc (ch 3) on each row, so I tried out a couple of “no-starting-chain dcs” to see if any of them looked any better. I’m thinking this one is best: at end of row turn, no chains. SC in first st and pull the loop as high as a DC. Then YO, insert hook into next st, finish DC as usual.

The SC into the very edge stitch from the row below eliminates the gap between the usual turning chain and the DC st in the 2nd st in the row below. I found it easier to find the “right” place to put the SCs in the border as I worked around the cloth.
