The yarn was won as a door prize on the 2010 (I think) yarn crawl, 10 skeins total.
I started the body part on the bus to Maryland, 5/4. I slowly worked through the cable border at the bottom. I didn’t really enjoy working the coin cable stitch pattern, it was a cable on a background of seed stitch, but you didn’t always knit the knit stitches of the cable and being on seed stitch made it difficult to “read” sometimes.
5/7/13 left front
5/8/13 back and right front
5/9/13 back neck trim took about 3 1/2 hours to do. Not totally pleased but not doing it over.
5/13 redid the sleeves about 2 1/2 times. I was adapting the pattern to top down and 3/4 length with seed stitch. I like 3/4 length sleeves and it is a flattering length for me and I didn’t really want to work the coin cable pattern again. I also wanted to play around with top down sleeves. Finally finished the knitting. Now to block.
Blocking 5/16.
5/18 - sewed on the Melissa Jean handmade button (purchased at Maryland Sheep and Wool)
I made size 36 3/4
I have 2 unused skeins left, but I may have used another for swatching only.
The back neck came out a little wide, but doesn’t bother me enough to do anything about it.
I used an oval button (Melissa Jean) which I really like. The directions call for a 3/4in button which will fit into the natural hole make by the cable, but I think it looks a little small.
I swatched before starting the project but didn’t wash my swatch. It is a washable wool yarn, so I made 2 identical swatches and machine washed and dryed one and it came out a little shorter (which I expected). The hand washed one was just right. However when I handwashed the whole sweater it was too long, which I also expected. The extra length is not a problem though.
