I followed the pattern in Creative Crochet to make this bowl, thinking it could be good project for my beginners class. Whilst I made it in an evening, it did take me a little longer and was a little more complicated than I thought, particularly if thinking of it for a beginner. For example, there were times when a repeated stitch number would be possible, but an alternating stitch count epwas used, e.g. ch 3 one repeat and ch 4 the next, when they could both in reality be e,.g. ch 4, which would ha e made it easier for beginners.

I used a sugar water stiffener, and placed it in the airing cupboard for around 3 days, after which it was completely dry, took it’s shape lovely.

I have done some since where I squeezed more of the sugar water out before leaving it to dry. They have certainly dried quicker (1-2 days instead of 3-4), time will tell whether the rigidity/quality will be affected in any way. I also tested making the bowls with and without wrapping the mould bowl in cling film (better known as Saran wrap in the US), and whilst both worked, the bowl with cling film on it did seem to work better, not just for removing but also for speeding up the drying process.
