Notes

Didn’t find any dpn’s below 2.75, so, these will have to do. Knitting a pair of socks was in my “To do list” for too long.

Started with a provisional Cast on, since it seemed impossible to me pick up sts from the CO edge. The beginning was fiddly but I think I did it alright, anyway, I’ll weave the tail in a manner that will hide any imperfection.
I added a twisted cable for the top of the socks to spice things a little, plus, I can see immediately which part I’m working on.

I increased until I had 60 sts on needles, knitted 5 rnds in plain St st and started working a right twisted cable over 30 sts (for the top, the sole is plain Stockinette):

Right twisted cable pattern
Rnd 1 – (P2, RT) x 7, P2, K30
Rnd 2 – (P2, K2) x 7, P2, K30

RT: K2tog, leave sts on LH needle and knit the first st again. Drop both sts off needles.

Worked these 2 rows 24 times - about 18 cm long (for the next pair I’ll work about 17 cm).

Worked first 30 sts once – (P2, RT) x 7, P2 and then placed these sts on waste yarn. Placed a safety line before proceeding to work the other 30 sts - the heel, which is worked back and forth).

At first, I worked short rows with W&T, didn’t like it since the holes were visible, so I ripped back and followed pattern for the heel and gusset. The video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zu5YAKsAEpY) was very helpful, what a clever way to deal with short rows, no wrapping, no holes, no muss, no fuss! I really enjoyed it. The only modification was to work a Ssk (as per pattern) instead of a K2tog as shown. You have to try it to see how simple it is and how it works well.
I left 10 “live” sts in the middle, which is enough for my heel.

After working the heel, I knitted 1 row (30sts) in St st and then removed carefully the waste yarn and placed the remaining sts on needles and started working in the round again (over 60sts). Next time I’ll increase 1 or 2 sts in the connection to prevent little holes; in the following round I’ll decrease to have again the right amount of sts.

First rnd: Rnd 2 – (P2, K2) x 7, P2, K30

Started once more working the 2 rounds of the Right twisted cable pattern.

18.11 - First sock is done.

26.11 - Second sock is finished:-)
Next time I’ll make them a bit smaller.
