Notes

My stepgrandfather worked in textiles for many years, but apparently for all his knowledge of fibers, yarns, and fabrics, he was unfamiliar with the craft of hand knitting. On one of my visits I brought some of my recent knitting to show off, and he was fascinated both by the knitting itself and by the composition of contemporary knitting yarn.

When I decided to make him a scarf, I wanted both a yarn and a pattern that would interest him and look good on him. I love this Basketweave Scarf, and I thought the play on weaving would amuse my stepgrandfather. The texture of the scarf is bold enough that it works even with a thick-and-thin yarn like Silky Flamme.

I’m happy to report that the scarf was a hit, and that he looks lovely in it.
