I wanted to make this the moment I saw one at the Joint Mathematics Meetings (yay, Knitting Circle!) in January 2009.

I originally bought a colorway in oranges and pinks to act as a counterpoint to the blue and purple yarn, but I got about half a foot into the scarf before realizing that it was too garish even to give away to a teenage girl. The earth-toned colorway was left over from the Scarfy Come Home I made for my aunt, and it made the perfect foil for the water tones.

The scarf is fairly small because I didn’t want to use more than one skein of each yarn. I made it with only 30 stitches across each diagonal. (Yes, an even number--I only did the starting increase on the last corner row at the cast-on corner, and only did the ending decrease on the first row of the bind-off corner.)
