Notes

Winter is coming, and I only have three pairs of wool socks that actually fit. This will not do.

Pattern: Wendy’s Lace and Cable socks, in the medium size.

Yarn: One day, in a fit of needing to buy yarn right away, I picked up two balls of white sock yarn. I quickly decided that this was boring yarn, and experimented with Kool-aid dyeing it. The result is uneven (I’ll call it heathered) and more red than I wanted, but I think it is lovely with this pattern. It is also rather fuzzy and a bit rougher than the Cascade Heritage I am used to, and I’m not sure that’s a result of the dyeing or a property of the original yarn.

Execution: Socks started with Judy’s magic cast-on and knit with two circular metal 2.0mm needles. Gusset was begun in row 5 of fifth repeat; heel itself was done as written. Calf shaping (m1R and m1L just inside cable panels on the back of the sock) started on row 11 of tenth repeat, with six stitches total added to sock. Cuff is 10 rows of 1x1 rib, followed by Jeny’s suprisingly stretchy bind-off; I started the ribbing with a purl stitch at the beginning of the round, so that it matched the ends nicely on the front.
