These newborn sized leg warmers were created with a 2 x 2 rib stitch (2 knits, 2 purls) until the heel. My super helpful and experienced friend Miss Knotty helped me stitch a heel and gusset to create support for the foot. I continued with more ribbing until I bound them off.
