I used the chain count for the L/XL size, but the number of rows (& stitches for the armholes) the 2XL/3XL size in order to make the sweater long enough to my liking.

I picked up the stitches for the armholes in SC and then used FPDC, BPDC for the sleeves to give them more elasticity.
