What drew me to this pattern is the way the ribbed neckband sits when worn, and the simplicity of the garter stitch. I made no changes, other than adding some length to the body and sleeves, and putting a couple more garter ridges between the two buttonholes. Next time I’d probably even space them a little more.
Gauge was 18sts as per the pattern but the chest is closer to the 18m. size. I added to the body and sleeve length to fit 18m.
Slipped stitch at end of rows, not the beginning (slip last stitch purlwise with yarn in front). Usually I prefer not to slip the edge stitch as I like the garter edge as is. But this time I decided to give the slipped stitch edge a go. I don’t really like it…. it makes a stretchier edge, less firm, so I will do garter right to the edge in future.
My gauge after washing: 17.75 sts per 10cm (and 36 rows), over garter stitch, so stitch gauge was a teeny bit looser than the pattern’s 18sts.
Finished chest: 22 inches (56cm)
Body length from top of neckband: 13.25 inches (33.5cm)
Sleeve from underarm: 8 inches (20.5cm) (I made my sleeves a little longer than the pattern’s.)
My impression is that this pattern runs a little big. Just eyeballing my cardigan, it looks like it might fit up to about 18 months.
Eventually I’ll knit this pattern using DK yarn. Worsted is heavier than I like, but it’s a cute little girl cardigan and the fabric is nicely soft and drapey.
