Notes

I omitted the garter stitch cuff and adapted the pattern to having a fleecy edging. Cast on 30sts with 3.25 needles and Snowflake yarn; worked 4 rows in garter stitch, changed to 3.5 needles and plain yarn and knit 12 or 14 rows according to height desired. Didn’t cut yarn.

Put first 10sts on a holder and joined a new length of yarn at stitch no. 11 to knit instep - 10sts and 14 rows.

Using original yarn, knit the 10sts from holder, pick up sts along side instep, knit 10 centre stitches, pick up sts along other side instep, knit 10.

NOTE: Sk2p = Sl 1, K2tog, PSSO

I joined the sole with kitchener stitch.

Button tab: With smaller needles cast on 15 stitches and knit 7 rows, cast off, to make a button tab as did mubba0mine in her beautiful project ”Baby Steps” which I modelled mine on. Thank you mubba0mine!

Sew up back garter stitch seam. When I cast on I leave a long tail and that’s what I use for this seam. I also leave a longish tail of the snowflake yarn so I can use that to seam the top snowflake edge of the boot.

The length of these booties seems fine for a newborn to about 3 months; the instep being higher (as is the character of Ugg boots) means it might be a bit big on a newborn, until those skinny little feet plump up.
