I followed the general idea of this pattern but adapted it to use a lighter-weight yarn held double, to allow for color blending. I decided to only put 6 color stripes, and the resulting blanket is 24” x 24”.

Gauge with yarn held double: 16 stitches and 14 ridges = 4x4” in garter stitch.
