Notes

Stranded pure cotton is a pleasure to wear in the summer!
My ‘White frost’ is totally seamless and very eclectic, it combines: stranded yoke & sleeves, little bit of guernsey (aka gansey) around the shoulders and some of lace knitting (the finishing touch).

Yeah! I love it and … it FITS!
;-)

Take 1:
16-22 of April 2012
False Start!
My calculations were not thorough enough! Oh, well… Unravel and calculate again!

Take 2:
1 of May 2012
Raglan top-down, 132 st at the beginning:

  • 4 x 2 st = 8 - raglan line
  • 2 x 20 - sleeves
  • 35 st - back (42 - 7)
  • 49 st - front (42 + 7).

That was before knitting short-rows trick for the back piece. After finishing that trick there are 168 st, which is great and exact amount to start my first stranded pattern!
3 of May - hooray! Another false start!
Yoke/take #2 is done! There are 320 sts on my needles.
It looks toooo big.
Ох уж мне эти майские проекты!
Well, I guess I just need some timeout with this experiments. I do like to experiment with yarn and needles, but I really, really would like to wear the results of it as well.

OK, I will (temporally!) switch to something else, less demanding of such tricky calculations and time-consuming checkouts. Have to rethink my approach. Or is it (in) the Name? Hmmm…

Take 3:
12-05-2012
OK, “…and now something else, completely different!
I’ve changed the idea of this round yoke. Two times of the horizontal trial and error is enough. Why not try a vertical one?

So, let’s try a round yoke (top-down) with a vertical stranded pattern. 126 st at the beginning (just enough to pull my head thru the opening).
Keep my fingers … on the needles.

Almost done… It took me a week to decide which pattern to choose for the sleeves/body endings. The decision is fallen on the lace of the Cielo Shrug (free pattern). I feel little bit guilty because of the unfinished project in this lace pattern. Now it is the question of a few days!

There are 250 st. for the body hem, needles N2,5.

27-07-2012
Done! I’m most happy with it!
It’s pure cotton but it’s quite light.
New things I’ve learned during processing this sweater:

  • 2 colour (stranded) knitting without fear;
  • counting the yoke widening and adjusting charts for the perfect round yoke,
  • ’no-holes-under-arm’ coonection;
  • etc.

25-01-2016

I’ve added three charts for all stranded parts, so everyone can repeat it now!
