Notes

Although this pattern is named after the famous Roman road, the columns and eyelets that make up the Roman Stitch pattern reminded me more of the Roman aqueducts: the double tiered bridges with columns and arches that carried water into the Roman cities. Perhaps, that’s why when I decided to knit this, it had to be blue. And what better yarn than Anzula Nebula?

I love the yarn and the pattern was not difficult to follow. But, after a few days, I’m not sure if I will ever wear this. After blocking, the cowl hangs very flat and is more like a poncho. It doesn’t have the same drape that I loved in Hilary’s more recent designs that I finished: xenia cowl and aurelia cowl

Of course, I am tempted to frog this and reknit it in the smaller size.

Some mods
Cowl body:
I worked the 14 stitch pattern 4 times to make up the body stitches. Increasing on the 14th row twice to shape.

Edging:
I didn’t want to repeat the roman stitch pattern (rounds 1-8) twice before doing the edging. Instead, I wanted the edging to stand out a bit more, so added a few rows of eyelets to separate it.
round 1: p all stitches
round 2: (yo, k2tog) to end
round 3: (p2tog, yo) to last two stitches, k2
repeated 2-3, then worked 2 again before doing the garter stitch and picot edging from the pattern.
